In an attempt to cover my parents with health insurance, I have been enquiring insurance companies on what they have to offer.I am shocked to discover that Insurance companies, DONOT have anything to offer when a working woman wants to take up a heath insurance policy, including her parents in it...Woe begone if the woman is married too...
Why this gender discrepancy? If a married man has the option to indlude either his wife or his parent(s) in his health insurance, why does the woman not have that option? If we do believe India has come of age in terms of gender equality.. we are .. well, pursuing a mirage!!!
Today, men are definitely more broad minded (except the tiny circle of frogs that won't leave their ponds) and are able to realise that the wife's aged parents do need support. But thanks to our treasured age old policies, it is not entirely possible.
How come women activists have not yet raised a hue and cry about this issue? We have fought for rights in the Parliament and legislature.. but have failed to fight for equality in the society...
If any of you out there agrees with me..put it up here.. Lets see if we can build some solidarity to change this sorry state..

i will give my full support for this. but it is not a 'gender discrepancy' as u said . if so we would not have elected a female as our chief minister. it is the transition period. sorry, if iam anything wrong.
I should say this article completly reflects my thoughts. It's high time we put an end to this chauvinistic thinking.Maybe society has changed considerably over the past, but issues like these just bring back the 'male-female' discrimination. It's 'bout time teeny-weeny,yet high priority issues such as these are brought to light.
