My Multi-purpose Grinding stone

When we were children, there was a profession called "Knife sharpening". The guy used to carry a contraption comprising of a couple of grinding stones rotating against each other, powered by a foot pedal. When he called out from the door, we used to rush out with our knives, scissors and other tools to get them sharpened...

These days we hardly ever see these guys on the road.. Instead the market is replete with DIY knife sharpening tools- pocket size.. I am yet to buy one of them and borrow the sharpener from my neighbor once a while..

But today I used my wet grinder as a knife sharpener and the results are excellent- afterall- we have an abrasive wheel rotating at high speed and all it takes is to apply the knife edge to the wheel to get it sharpened... I know most people find such things banal, but for those in the kitchen, this tip will prove useful- sharpen the knife every time you grind your idli-dosai batter!!! Just ensure you have a tight hold on the knife and move it against the stone in a steady manner.

Now  this is what I call innovation (ha ha)!!!
